Justin had a very successful 2011 season highlighted by 9 feature wins including impressive back to back victories at the famous Eldora Speedway and the Bob Darland Memorial at Kokomo Speedway. Justin capped off his season with three victories in a row at Gas City including a feature victory when his team showed up just in time to push off for the B-Main after missing hot laps, qualifying, and the heat races: Running second in the B from the tail, Justin then put on one of the most impressive drives of the season as he came from the back of the A-main to take the victory.

Justin and car owner Mark Hery headed to Florida for the USAC opener February 8-11, 2012. Wednesday practice started with the team experiencing motor issues in practice as they broke a valve in their primary motor. As the other teams were dialing in their cars, Justin and Mark found themselves scrambling to get a backup power plant into the #40 machine. Justin qualified 5th on Thursday, but found himself in the B-main after trouble transferring out of his heat race. Justin and Mark were still dialing in the car due to loss of practice time on Wednesday, and they won the B-Main. Starting 8th in the Main, Justin fought an ill handling, over tight car most of the race and finished 9th. Friday was a wash, as the show was canceled due to rain. Saturday was a new day, Justin and Mark took what the learned on Thursday, and had a decent hot lap session. The track record for Ocala had been lowered to a blistering 14.13 by Levi Jones, but when Justin laid down an almost perfect second lap, he lowered the track record to 14.01, just missing a sub 14 second lap.
Justin started sixth in the Heat race and was able to secure a transfer spot into the main with a last lap pass for the fourth spot. Being fast time put Justin in the sixth starting spot for the main. As the race unfolded, Justin found himself in a battle with Darren Hagen for the lead. The track was fast and difficult to pass, but Justin made numerous attempts to get by, but as the two leaders battled, it allowed Bryan Clauson to sneak into the mix, and Bryan was able to get by Justin as the battled through lap traffic. The finish saw Darren secure the victory with Bryan on inches behind in second for a photo finish, with Justin coming home a close third. Great run for the Mark Hery Racing team.
